SHINE on Saturday @ Archbishop Sumner
The grant recipient

Archbishop Sumner Primary School is an inner-city school and most of its students live in rented housing. It is the only Full Serviced Extended primary school in Lambeth and has a successful track record in delivering extended hours learning opportunities for students.
The programme
SHINE @ Archbishop Sumner takes 60 underachieving students in years 4, 5 and 6 (7-11 year olds) from the school and seven other local schools.
Latest results
- 68% of students now have a reading age above their chronological age, compared to 36% at the beginning of the year
- in maths almost half the Year 6 students were below target at the beginning of the year. All reached or bettered their target by the end of the year
- case studies illustrate that week on week the teachers build students’ confidence and aspiration
The funding
SHINE has made a grant to part fund set up and running costs. The school funds the post of Project Manager and further contributions are made by parents and other funding bodies.
