Entrepreneurs in Action

The grant recipient

The Entrepreneurs in Action Foundation is a community interest company and works with EiA Ltd to run enterprise coaching programmes. Over the last five years, EiA has helped thousands of young people to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and business and economic understanding.

The Entrepreneur Academy programme

What it aims to do

  • pilot an entrepreneurship programme run out of school hours and over a number of months
  • improve the motivation, aspiration and achievement levels of secondary students who are underachieving in school

How it works

The Academy will work with 50 students aged 12-14 years from Catford in Lewisham, on Saturdays and during half terms. A programme of ‘hands on’ activities and challenges will be led by coaches with previous and current business experience. It will aim to develop specific knowledge, skills and attitudes for business and work:

  • personal - confidence, commitment, resilience, communication and presentation
  • entrepreneurial - passion, enthusiasm, determination and flexibility
  • business - planning, pricing and marketing

The funding

SHINE has made a grant to cover the costs of developing and piloting the Saturday Entrepreneuship Academy. Additional funding is being provided by the London Borough of Lewisham.

Funding: £33,600 to the EIA Foundation, over one year (2009-10)
